A moving surface of mirrors representing the moons surface
Spectra is an installation inspired by the action of meteors hitting the surface of the moon. It consists of a suspended surface made up of 64 triangular mirrored tiles, each having their corner position controlled in the vertical dimension.
Working with Field, I designed and built the mechanism for their Spectra installation. It features a frame containing 45 motor module unit. Each unit has a pulley to lift the mirrors up and down and a control board using custom firmware. The mirrors were held together by small pieces of wire.
